The good news for the Arizona Cardinals: Safety Chris Banjo participated in full Thursday ahead of the team’s Monday Night Football road game against the Dallas Cowboys. He and Jalen Thompson could be back this week.

The bad: The Cardinals are banged up at outside linebacker.

Because Chandler Jones is done for the season after suffering a biceps injury that requires surgery, the Cardinals already had a thinned out position group.

Fellow starter Devon Kennard (calf) has returned to practice in a limited capacity and could suit up against the Cowboys if all goes well. But two other outside linebackers, Kylie Fitts (hamstring) and Dennis Gardeck (foot), did not participate in practice Thursday. Gardeck told reporters he was confident he would play and was upgraded to limited on Friday even though Arizona did not go through practice.

Fitts still has yet to participate.

Cardinals starting right guard J.R. Sweezy (elbow) and rookie defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence (calf) joined Fitts on the sidelines Thursday and Friday.

“We’ll still have four guys dressed for the game,” defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said of the outside linebackers on Thursday. “We got D.K. back into practice yesterday obviously. We’ll see how he progresses before Monday night.

“If D.K. is full speed, he’ll play full-time along with Haason, and Gardeck’s backing up both spots. We’ll still have four guys who can play.”

Arizona also signed Isaiah Irving off the Denver Broncos practice squad this week, and he could be the fourth guy if Fitts is out.

At safety, Thompson is designated for return from the injured reserve after missing most of the season, save for a few snaps in Week 1. He made his way back into practice Wednesday and must be activated.

“He’s been out a couple weeks so it takes time to kind of feel your way back into it from a schematic point,” Joseph said. “Physically, he looked OK.

“He can obviously get better and better as the week progresses. We’ll see how it goes with Jalen. If he’s ready to go, he’ll go. If not, we’ll push it back a week.”
