ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Cody Bellinger hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the seventh inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers entered the World Series for the third time in four years by defeating the Atlanta Braves with 4 in Game 7 of the NL Championship: 3 defeated series on Sunday night.
Bellinger connected an inning after Kiké Hernández became the first prize hitter with a game-deciding or starting homer in a winner-take-all game. His homer tied it at 3 and, like Bellingers, came in eighth place on the at-bat.
The Dodgers, who set an LCS record with 16 homers, overcame a 3-1 deficit by winning three games in a row when they were eliminated for the second time in their history.
After winning both their NL Division Series and the NLCS at the new $ 1.2 billion Globe Life Field, the Dodgers will stay in place for the World Series. Game 1 against the American League champions Tampa Bay Rays is Tuesday night.
The Dodgers will try again to win their first World Series title since 1998. They lost Game 7 three years ago at home to the Houston Astros and lost five games to the Boston Red Sox in 2018 when Mookie Betts was the AL MVP and plays against Los Angeles.
Tampa Bay's win in Game 7 of the ALCS late Saturday night cut the chance for a rematch in October against the Astros, whose 2017 World Series win over the Dodgers through the revelations of Houston sign theft tactics earlier that season was heavily clouded.
Betts, the first year dodger who was still under contract for 12 years, made another incredible defensive game, robbing NL MVP candidate Freddie Freeman a solo homer in the fifth.
Julio Urias, the fifth Dodgers pitcher, retired the last nine batters for his fourth win in four appearances this postseason. The 24-year-old right-hander has an ERA of 0.57 in these playoffs in his fourth postseason.
The massive shot to the right by reigning NL MVP and 2018 NLCS MVP Bellinger came on a 94-mile sinker after Chris Martin, the fifth Braves pitcher, who started the seventh with strikeouts from Max Muncy and Will Smith the seventh, three Pitch had been dirty in a row
Hernández led the sixth with a 424-foot drive to the left of A.J. Minter.
Dansby Swanson returned to Atlanta, which has not been in the World Series since 1999.
