The Phoenix Suns are bringing back third-year guard Jevon Carter, agreeing to a 3-year, $11.5 million deal with the restricted free agent, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Carter, 25, averaged 4.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 0.8 steals per game last season. A defensive specialist at 6-foot-1, Carter bounced in and out of the Suns’ rotation throughout the year. He played 16.3 minutes per game and earned a more defined role as his shooting became more reliable, with Carter knocking down a terrific 42.5% of his 2.5 three-point attempts per game.

While Carter is a limited ball-handler, he continuously provided high-level energy for the Suns, swinging a few key games this past season. He gives the Suns more defense and shooting in the backcourt behind Chris Paul and Devin Booker.

Carter arrived in the summer of 2019 from the Memphis Grizzlies as a part of the trade that sent Josh Jackson and De’Anthony Melton to Memphis. He was selected in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft, 32nd overall.

Teams were legally allowed to begin speaking with free agents at 4 p.m. Friday, when a wave of reported signings came in. Official deals can be signed at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The Suns on Saturday also agreed to a three-year, $30 million deal with free-agent forward Jae Crowder, according to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.
